Ellen has been practicing as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor since 2003. Her interest in the mindbody connection started early. She earned a BS in Biopsychology at Tufts University and an MA in Counseling Psychology with a holistic emphasis from Lesley University. Beginning in her late 20’s, she developed a whole array of unexplained health problems including fatigue, all-over body pain, severe allergies, chemical sensitivity, and dizziness.

Ellen’s healing process eventually led her to discover the power of neuroplasticity to both learn and unlearn pain. But before she did, she experienced firsthand the challenges of having PPD – the repeated frustrations with our broken medical system, the staggering amount of time and money spent on conventional and alternative therapies, and the anguish of the extensive losses of the sweet things in life that PPD inflicts. As a result, she has endless compassion for those with PPD and understands deeply the level of commitment, willingness to self-reflect and change, and the straight- up grit that it takes to heal. She loves leading clients through it.

Ellen is certified in Alan Gordon’s Pain Reprocessing Therapy and completed 12 hours of training with the PPDA. She has treated clients with various types of pain including migraines, fibromyalgia, and phantom limb pain, as well as chronic debilitating fatigue, tick-born infections, irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies, skin problems, insomnia, interstitial cystitis, and multiple chemical sensitivity.

Besides specializing in treating pain and other medically unexplained symptoms, Ellen has extensive training and experience in treating trauma, OCD, and other anxiety disorders. She uses body-oriented techniques including EMDR and Energy Psychology methods which can resolve the root causes of some pain much more quickly than talk therapy. She loves to teach clients concrete skills for regulating their central nervous systems to calm their bodies and minds. She has been practicing meditation for nearly two decades.

She is very holistically minded. She attends to matters such as diet, sleep hygiene, exercise, work-life balance, and recreation, all of which are part of a program for healing from chronic pain. She loves to integrate spirituality into the therapy for clients who are interested, in whatever form is meaningful to them. She infuses all of her work with the principles of mindfulness and the latest research on neuroplasticity and pain science.

In addition to individual therapy, she offers groups for healing chronic pain. She also loves to do couples therapy, especially for those whose relationships have been strained by the impact of chronic pain or illness. She is a member of The Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP), the professional organization through which she’s done most of her training in Energy Psychology methods.
